The Thought Instigator
Imagine my response to a recent AARP newsletter and its inspiring headline: “10 Foods You Can Eat Without Gaining Weight!” (Exclamation mark added)
Talk about yer advocacy for the common good! Yet another listicle to browse, like so flippin’ many emails that flood our inboxes.
Okay, so this isn’t the political advocacy I signed up for. Nevertheless, I’m going to steal AARP’s thunder and tell you what those foods are. As if anyone with half a left brain can’t guess (mostly).
Ready? Set? Hold on to your floppy-eared winter hats, and go!
10 HEALTHY FOODS YOU CAN EAT WITHOUT GAINING WEIGHT
Indulge in these to your heart’s content, along with a balanced diet. (Their words, not mine.)
- Celery
- Lettuce
- Watermelon
- Broccoli and cauliflower
- Grapefruit
- Mushrooms
- Berries (strawberries, blueberries, blackberries)
- Kiwi
- Carrots
- Spinach and kale
Okay, so my distraction here is it’s really 14 foods, but I get the pairings. It’s nothing to fret about, when, in fact, the greater news is I like everything on the list. Every week I cut up a bunch of celery, carrots and radishes (which aren’t on the list; maybe they’d be number 11. Or 15. They average 1 calorie each.)
Here’s a bunch of nutrition insights in radishes, so dig in! https://www.healthline.com/health/food-nutrition/the-benefits-of-radishes#5-health-benefits-of-radishes
I’m happy to munch a bunch for lunch. I usually also have a protein (leftover varmint, can o’ tuna, sardines), but sometimes it just feels cleansing to maow a bunch of raw veggies. And I get to eat kiwis? Like getting dessert, who knew?
All this talk is making me hungry. Thank goodness for the order of spinach salad, chicken cutlet on arugula, and garlic bread that’s on its way! One out of 10 ain’t bad! Or is that one out of 15?
