I was invited by one of our local public libraries to participate in its author talk series – last April. And then A funny thing happened on the way to the forum (to cite a fun, favorite movie). We all got slapped by the coronavirus pandemic, and the library’s (everyone’s!) events were cancelled.
Longish story short, the library reconfigured its author series (a fabulous program featuring authors each week in a live setting) into a virtual event, and I accepted an invitation to speak via Zoom at 7 p.m. this Thursday, December 10.
For anyone inclined to join in, here’s the link: https://www.kingstonpubliclibrary.org/newsite/2020/08/26/december-10th-at-7pm-virtual-author-talk-scott-smith/
I’m curious as to what attendance may be, as most of the library’s author talks feature nonfiction authors who speak about fascinating subjects – often history. I’m not going to talk about history, but I will address some nonfiction, specifically my approach as an indie author to the wild wild west of self publishing as a business enterprise. I’ll also talk about my current series, Books I-III of THE LGBT SUPERHEROES!, and I’ll touch on my current project, developing the Peter MacAlister Mystery Series. I’m in the editing stage for book 2 and will commence book 3 soon, in order to have three done or nearly so when I begin publishing them in winter 2021.
I expect to have a cover reveal soon – actually, I’m thinking of putting the three variations out to readers on my newsletter email list, which can be joined here, and on my FB page, for response.
So, that’s my business update. I also want to note what I’m currently reading, which is Cry Wolf, by new author DL Link. It’s a cross genre mystery/monster sort of novel that’s well written, plotted for fun featuring a wiseass protagonist who throws around a lot of attitude. I try a lot of new authors via Amazon’s Kindle Unlimited program, which my and many indie authors’ novels are in. Many I start and stop and delete. A few I keep around. This is the first of three books Link published a month apart just this fall, and so far I’m keeping him around.
