After a long and wonderfully fulfilling career in journalism, I am taking the solopreneur route as a freelance writer/content creator to help folks boost their brands. Just as I live with intention, I write with intention.
I also help my wife, Leigh, market her very cool new product line at Featherstones LLC. Check it out here.

My news career
I joyfully dedicated decades of my career to print and web journalism, nearly 17 of those years as managing editor for GateHouse Media/Gannett │USA TODAY Network in the Plymouth, Massachusetts, newsroom. In that life-altering gig I was responsible for publishing 10 newspapers and 13 websites, overseeing related social media, and supervising 20 fabulous employees.
During my 23 years with GateHouse/Gannett, I won first place for business and economics reporting in the New England News and Press Association’s annual journalism competition and was also presented with four community awards for arts advocacy and the fight against hunger. A few news career highlights:
- Oversaw publication of 10 community newspapers and related websites
- Supervised a newsroom of 20 employees – award-winning reporters and photographers, copy editors, page designers, support personnel
- Instituted regular content and special project planning sessions: hard news, investigative, in-depth enterprise, feature stories; business & development, government, A&E, lifestyle, cultural
- Introduced video to our digital coverage
- Personally edited six print and digital publications for GateHouse/Gannett, most recently for several years editing the New England division’s flagship community newspaper and website
- Several years of previous experience as an award-winning reporter, business editor and news editor
- Digitally savvy: CMS web production, SEO, analytics, video
- Launched and managed popular Facebook, Twitter and Instagram business pages
- Launched a Facebook group during the early COVID pandemic focused on community kindness
My dark hours of early morning career
On the fun side, I have written two three-book series of wildly entertaining adventure novels, with more grand ideas churning. My Peter MacAlister Mysteries and THE LGBT SUPERHEROES! novels are intended to be enjoyable entertainment for reasonably mature audiences. If there’s anything I love more than hunkering in with a cool mystery or warm adventure, it’s writing them. I hope you enjoy my novels! Take a look. And find my books here at amazon.com.
